Gaping Sandals,Crouching Crutches!
It has been at least 2 weeks since our return from the CamThai Lezbo trip. And I am still dreaming about the great temples, the people, the little adventures, the mishap and the food of this great 10 day journey.
The day I landed in Siem Reap, my good old realiable pair of Teva sandals decided to give up on me.Perhaps it couldn't take the intense heat that we were experiencing or it wanted to have a break of its own instead!Thinking that it could fool me into not wearing it and buying a new pair instead. But I wasn't gonna be fooled and neither was I intending to give up on this trusty pair of sandals.
So there we were playing charades and sign language with the staff of the hardware store to get some Super Glue that we saw at the window of her store. Somehow, someway, one of the guys in that store guessed what we were looking for and in their local lingo got me what I needed. A Glue for USD1.
The sandals lasted throughout my many "miles" of walking and stair-climbing exercise on the worn out sandstone stairs of the temples and manage to survive the hills that we climbed during our temple tours in Siem Reap and also lasted all the way to our Thailand stop.
But little did I know, some crutches were crouching back home waiting for me to use them.
Happily we were (perhaps not happily, but exhaustingly) we were trekking up some lychee lined hills in Chiang Mai to visit some hill tribes that lived there. I survived climbing up the hills but a surprise fall awaited me when coming downhill.
Just as CBK n I were about to sing She'd be coming round the mountain..lalalal..hahahaha I slipped on some sandy patches and mud (i think) and must have landed awkwardly on my left foot. Throbbing and kiasu..I continued with the rest of the tour, limping.
Thanks to my lovely CBK, she helped me throughout the trip, holding on to me and looking out for me.Thanks CBK!
Back in the city of ChiangMai, got an xray done (and nope, the doctor in the CM Hospital wasn't good looking, but the nurses were HOT!) no fracture just sprained ankle. So we hobbled out in the rain to get a tuktuk to Rattana's Kitchen for some goood Thai Food & GINGER TEA!!!
Kiasu degil syndrome sank in on me the next morning (our last day before we fly off the next morning).I hobbled n limped around Wararot Market, buying Cap Moo (sounds like that - Crispy Pig's Skin) and fried Bamboo Worms for family back home.
Not giving up, we went to get a pedicure, manicure and massage. Hahhaa by then my foot began to change its race!My left foot has decided to be an Indian!
The bruises on my toes turned from blue-ish green to black-ish red!N the swell was almost like Yuen Tai (some cina Pork Knuckle dish)!
CBK was gettin worried and kept asking if my toes will just fall off!Hhehehhehe...but I must make full use of my last day there..so we shopped, rested, ate and shopped till we dropped!
Flying on Air Asia didn't help either, girl with a bandage foot didn't get much sympathy or priority from its passengers who were EXTREMELY kiasu! It's as if the plane will just take off without them getting on it.They even sorta shoved us one side just to get in line and to grab a good seat in the plane?!There were no wheelchair service too for injured, limping passengers!
Got home, got an xray and I indeed did fracture my left ankle bone. The crack was about 4-5 inches long and slight displacement of the bone of about 1-2mm was found and including some torn ligaments!
Wow!
So now my leg is in a cast (fibreglass cast, backslab only)and the crutches are hiding no more.
6 weeks in this cast and I think another 2 more months on crutches!
Darn!There goes my Australia trip!
But...if u ask me if I had any regrets straining and pressuring my injured foot so much more after the fall in Chiang Mai?
I will tell you, not really!
I did what I wanted to do - elephant ride, bamboo raft and a Motorbike Ride in Chiang Mai! Hhahahahahahah =)
Thanks again to my larply CBK for looking after me, taking my luggage and stuff during the trip! Muacks!
*CBK n I are planning to have at least 1 motorbike ride in
every country we visit!
